Colt Brennan Story
|
Hawaii field general Colt Brennan was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the 6th round of the NFL draft with the 186th general selection. Brennan made up one of three 6th round draft selections by the Redskins in the 2008 national football league draft. Brennan was the 10th signal caller chosen in the draft copy. Colt Brennan, who realized a outstanding 3 year career at Hawaii, broke 31 university records. According to Hawaii coach June Jones, "Colt is a money guy". Hawaii provided him a 2nd chance when different colleges wouldn't. June Jones was helpful in getting Brennan to Hawaii during his second-year season. The Hawaii qb established his ability to throw with sense of touch, precision, and fitting sufficient zip that in the proper offense, Colt could be a winning pro quarterback. He has yielded himself as one of the upper qb's coming out of college football and helped set Hawaii's football name on the national map. Redskins vice president Vinnie Cerrato said Brennan will have time to build up. The Redskins actually acquired a steal when they picked him up. Brennan saw his first NFL game action during the Hall of Fame preseason game versus the Indianapolis Colts on August 3, 2008. Colt Brennan assisted Mater Dei High to the league title in basketball as a senior. While there, Brennan was the relief quarterback to Matt Leinart until Leinart graduated. He went to prep school on the east coast prior to walking on in 2003 at University of Colorado. Later "the incident", which was in the middle of Colorados other accusations of sex crimes and disclosures of torrid recruiting parties involving Colorado football players, Colt Brennan was right away kicked off the team. Brennan transported to Saddleback College in California in 2004 and helped conduct the junior college to a conference title. Brennan was named honorable mention Junior College All-American, California offensive player of the season, and first team all-conference for his execution that season. He got back up on the football battlefield, put his past behind him and excelled. He chose Hawaii and has been on a hot roll, on and off the playing area ever since. Brennan made the most of another adventure at Hawaii. Colt Brennan joined Hawaii in 2005 and quickly seized the starting position at quarterback. Brennan restored his image well enough for Hawaii head coach June Jones to provide him a walk-on opportunity at Hawaii. Brennan went in the 2006 season as the unchallenged starter at qb, was appointed to multiple award watch lists and was voted the western athletic conferences preseason offensive player of the season. Brennan entered the 2007 season on a mission to go unconquered and get a trip to the BCS. Brennan returned to Hawaii as a Heisman leader and one of the NCAA's most productive throwers. Brennan put up giant numbers during his record setting college years. Brennan has been knocked for his deficiency of strength, hurling mechanics and the fact that he toyed in Hawaiis pass-happy system and therefore would not be able to learn an NFL offense. Brennan topped all greenhorn qb's in the 2008 pre-season stats department for the 2008 season. Colt Brennan just finds a way to get it done. Brennan helped dispel doubts about his ability to transition from former Hawaii coach June Jones run and shoot shotgun offense. He ran out of the shotgun in his college career and must answer major wonders about his pocket presence while learning to play under center. It's funny how people get caught up in the whole thing about system quarterbacks" Colt said, If you're a system quarterback, it means you're doing everything right". Brennan is one of the most desired football players in the US, and that means rooters everywhere are lining up to get a piece of him. June Jones, a one-time NFL field general and coach, said "Brennan is among the top three quarterbacks he has ever worked with". |
